Marla Johns, Executive Director

Marla

My name is Marla Johns and I am the Executive Director of Mountain Springs Senior Care Community. I graduated from Carson City High School and attended the University of Nevada, Reno. I graduated with honors from UNR with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a minor in Psychology. After taking a few years off to work and have a family, I went back to school and received a Masters Degree in Counseling, graduating again with Honors. I have worked in the areas of medical social work, child protective services, homeless services, and counseling; but I definitely find working with elders and working at Mountain Springs to be the most joyful.

I was drawn to Mountain Springs first by the mission statement (creating environments where moments of joy, independence, and wellness are the focus each and every day). It is my belief that this is a core desire of all humanity, and should be for our elders as well. I look forward to continuing the journey at Mountain Springs toward becoming an Eden Alternative Certified Community, as this ties in so strongly with our core beliefs and mission.

I currently live in Reno with my husband, Steve, and our two children, Trent (13) and Alyssa (9). Three dogs, six hermit crabs, and a turtle also call the Johns’ household home. When not working I enjoy crafts of all kinds, camping, hanging out with my family, and cake decorating. I am an avid reader and enjoy documentary films. Most of all, I find such delight in the little things in life.
